Linda Taylor

It is a distinct privilege for me to serve as Mayor for the City of McCook.  Being a farmer's daughter has taught me the great importance of agriculture in our region.  We, as a family, have always believed in the importance of attending church and giving back to the community.  I am a business co-owner of VK Electronics, which was named Nebraska Retail Champion in 2018 and was one of the National Retail Federations Top 5 Retail Finalists in America.  I served on McCook City Council from 1994-2002, serving two of those years as Mayor.  Due to health situation in my family, I needed to take a break and help move our business forward.

I believe that when we all work together, a community can better serve its residents.  Serving on Nebraska Public Power's Retail Committee from 1992-1998 was a learning experience about our great public power system in Nebraska.  I was fortunate to be able to serve on Governor Mike Johanns transportation committee and learned a lot about the importance of moving goods and services throughout our state to our communities.  Our first Nebraska Super 2 Highway connecting us to Interstate 80 was a product of this.  Transportation is very important for a community to survive.  McCook Chamber of Commerce is instrumental in keeping our retail robust.  I have been a Chamber member for 40 years having served as President and chair of the retail committee.  I have served 8 years on the McCook Economic Development board with 4 of those as secretary.  National Retail Federation Small Business Council has given me the opportunity to be a member.  This council gives retailers throughout the United States the platform to directly connect with policy makers to advocate for small business. Governor Pete Rickets made me an Admiral of the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska in 2018.

Sucess or failure always depends on your attitude, whether you are a student or an adult, whether you are an association or an organization, whether you are a business or a community.  Let's all work together to keep McCook thriving, honor our storied history and continue to make McCook a wonderful place to live, work and play!
