CITY OF MCCOOK PRESS RELEASEMARCH 19, 2020
In response to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, the City of McCook has been monitoring various governmental agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO), Center for Disease Control (CDC), Nebraska State Government, including Governor’s office, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department and McCook Community Hospital.
The CDC has updated their recommendation that groups of 10 or more people should not gather, especially if the participants are arriving from other communities, which would increase the chances of the virus being transmitted into our community and participants being infected and transmitting it back to their own communities.
In the interest of public safety, effective 5:00 p.m. Thursday March 19, 2020, the City is cancelling all meetings and gatherings at all City facilities including McCook Public Library, McCook City Auditorium, Jaycee Complex and Felling Field. All recreational programing scheduled on City ballfields and parks for games and practices is prohibited until further notice.
The recycling center will be closed and cardboard pickup services will be discontinued until further notice. Individuals and businesses will have to stockpile their recyclables at their personal residence or business, or they can discard their recyclables in their trash until further notice. The transfer station will continue to operate during normal business hours.
City staff will continue to work normal hours and will be available to assist you. We request that contact with staff be made by telephone or email instead of face to face visits. The preferred method for delivering all payments will be to pay over the phone or online at our City of McCook website by credit or debit card or by utilizing the drop box on the south side of the building. The McCook City Library will be offering drive up services for book pick-up and checkout. McCook Senior Center will continue to deliver Meals on Wheels for seniors in need. McCook transit will run according to schedule.
The City will continue to provide essential services such as water, wastewater, trash, police and fire. Our dispatchers and safety service providers will be asking additional questions to assist in determining precautions necessary to ensure everyone’s safety.
